This S.P. overprint, which uses characters that are taller, thinner, and finer than those used for the original S.P. overprint (type I), was applied to a very small number of regular postage stamps in 1891. The overprinting was ordered by M. Knaff, Inspector of Luxembourg P.T.T., with the approval of the Director, to satisfy an order by a German stamp dealer (Gebr. Senf) for a number of S.P. type I stamps that were then out of stock. These Knaff overprints are extremely rare.
